Boel, Peter
Antwerp, 1622 - París, 1674
Biography
Painter and draftsman for Louis XIV, he was likely a disciple of the great still-life and hunting scene painter Jan Fyt. Between 1647 and 1649, Boel resided in Genoa, studying the work of Castiglione. He then traveled to France and, beginning in 1668, joined the group of painters, mostly Flemish, who produced tapestry cartoons at the Gobelins under the direction of Le Brun.
