This small composition on panel, attributed to Pieter Neefs the Elder, is typical of the work of the Flemish master known for his interior views of churches. This version has been identified as a representation of the Cathedral of Antwerp.
The Netherlands Institute for Art (RKD 106472) identifies the painting and locates it in the private collection of José Lázaro Galdiano, under inventory number 11316. More recently, the catalogues of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum locates the painting in Room 22, were it was displayed next to another Interior of a Church by Neefs. Currently, the painting is no longer on display in the museum but remains part of its reserves (November 2024).
