Luigi Gentile aslo known as Louis Cousin, was a Flemish draftsman and miniaturist painter. He was born in Ninove (Belgium) in 1606. He worked mainly in Rome his entire career. He joined an informal association composed mostly Duch and Flemish painters living in Rome.
Within this group, he was given de nickname "Gentile" or "Gentiel", in recognition of his affable character. In Rome, he was commonly known by this name. In addition, he adopted the surname "Primo" in Italy., an italian traslation from his original surname, whose meaning in French is "Cousin".
Among other works, he collaborated on a series of twenty copper panels that narrate the exploits of two Sicilian noble brothers of Spanish origin Guillermo Ramón Moncada and Antonio Moncada. Of the twelve scenes the dedicated to the first, Luigi Gentile painted five.
He died in Brussels in 1667.
