Observations

It is part of the tapestry series with scenes from the "History of the House of Moncada" of which 6 panels were made.

The project is based on the copper models commissioned by Luis Guillén de Moncada, 7th Duke of Montalto, around 1663 to William van Herp, Luigi Gentile, Adam-Frans van der Meulen, David Teniers and Jan van Kessel, the latter for the design of the borders.

The realization of the tapestries was postponed until 1699 when his son Fernando de Aragón y Moncada, 8th Duke of Montalto, commissioned Lambert de Hondt and the tapestry makers Albert Auwercx and Nicolas Auwercx, although the project was interrupted in 1703 due to economic difficulties. Finally his daughter Catalina de Moncada bought the six completed cloths from the Auwercx family between 1708 and 1718. Later she tried to complete the project of her father and grandfather, but it could not be done.
