Francisco Garví Oliver collection

Description

Outstanding politician of the time of the Restoration: Deputy for the province of Albacete (1903-1905); Senator of the same district (1907-1909); he was named Governor Civil of Orense (1909) by the government of Antonio Maura. 

There is no documentation about his collection, probably formed at the end of the XIX century or beginning of the XX century.

His sister, Mrs. María Juana Garví Oliver, was his heir, and through her, her son Mr. Manuel Hidalgo Garví, whose will was opened in June 1994. In this will he bequeaths: "al Ayuntamiento de El Ballestero la casa sita en la calle de D. Francisco Garví, n.º 1, para la construcción en ella de un Museo Etnográfico con todos los bienes antiguos y de valor" [to the City Council of El Ballestero the house located in the street of D. Francisco Garví, n.º 1, for the construction in it of an Ethnographic Museum with all the old and valuable goods].
